Acer Challenges Apple Mac Air with World’s Thinnest Laptop
Acer unveiled what they claim to be the World’s thinnest laptop at the Consumer Electronics Show at Las Vegas this Sunday. Taiwan based world’s third largest PC company in the world has been making giant strides in the PC market of late giving sleepless nights to the likes market leaders like Dell, HP and eating away market share of Lenovo, Toshiba amongst others
Acer Aspire 5 as the model is called will start to be shipped from the second quarter of the year. The prices are kept in the wraps and it is hoped that the company keeps them aggressive to make the first solid punch to the competition.
Acer Aspire 5 has a 13.3 inch monitor and is just 1.5cm thick at the thickest point. It weighs just above a kg. Ultra books as the category they would fall in will be powered by recently launched Microsoft Windows 8. The company also claims that this segment of laptops will take up almost one third of the sales by the end of the year. And this prediction does not seem out of place given the penchant of buyers to go for lighter mid sized laptops which are power packed and rich in multimedia experience.
However the road to success will not be easy with Apple not taking it too kindly to the launch and will surely come up with their own Bazooka model in due time.
